Another one-off live gig at Tonic, much like the Eagles of Hair Metal show. I'd seen Zeena and Ikue play around town over the years in various contexts and always enjoyed and admired their playing. By this time I'd already played at Tonic with Ikue and Arto Lindsay as a trio, and played there with Zeena on an improv night alongside Henry Kaiser and Evan Parker. Zeena and Ikue had a duo back then called Phantom Orchard, and Carlos had worked with all of us in one capacity or another before. This is a dark, super-heavy power electronics show, not what you might expect from anyone involved besides Carlos; a good reminder of how multi-faceted, adventurous, and open-minded the expect-the-unexpected free improvisation community can be.
