about

First time available digitally, previously a vinyl-only release. Since Brian and I have had long personal and professional relationships with La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela, as well as being decisively influenced by their work, as is evident on the record, now through August 7th, 2020 we will be donating all proceeds to the gofundme campaign dedicated to saving the Dream House, the sound and light installation created and run by Young and Zazeela. charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/save-the-dream-house-keep-our-dream-alive

The first track, “18:12” is a high-energy guitar-drum duo in the tradition of Rashied Ali’s pairings with John Coltrane, Frank Lowe, and Rudolph Grey, or the classic underground guitar-drum duo album Daily Dance by Doug Snyder & Bob Thompson. The other tracks meld electronics with distorted guitar to produce a force field of overtones.I've often tried to describe my music as a merging of free jazz, rock, noise and minimalism, and this project might be the clearest example of that kind of meeting ground. Brian was the perfect collaborator the realize this kind of music with. I was impressed when I saw him playing drums with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs early on, and later heard that he was interested in experimental music and had even worked at the Dream House. We met and talked about playing together, and it worked out just as I hoped it would. Brian has a technique of accentuating harmonics on a snare drum and enhancing them with electronics, and I often do the same on guitar, so it's a natural combination. Please check out his "Drums & Drones" series over at drumsanddrones.bandcamp.com
